Founded in 1986 by Navin C. Nanda, MD

Along with 14 dedicated medical professionals, Dr. Nanda recognized the need to address the disproportionate impact of cardiovascular disease on Indian Americans and envisioned an organization that would bring together healthcare professionals, lay individuals, corporate members, and institutions to tackle this critical issue.

Dr. Navin C. Nanda served as the founding president of AACIO and currently chairs the Board of Directors. Under his leadership, the organization has grown to over 500 members, including healthcare professionals, lay individuals, corporate members, and institutional members.

Making A Global Difference: Navin C. Nanda, MD, FACC

Beginning in 2026, the ACC’s Distinguished Award for International Service will be named in honor of Navin C. Nanda, MD, FACC, thanks to the support of the American Association of Cardiologists of Indian Origin (AACIO).

The award, given annually to an individual who has made significant and enduring contributions to the international cardiovascular community, is one Nanda knows well – receiving the honor himself in 2010.

American College of Cardiology (ACC) has recognized Dr. Nanda with the prestigious International Service Award, Navin C. Nanda International Service Award, in perpetuity, and the first inaugural Navin C. Nanda International Service Award, which will be presented at ACC 2026.

This honor recognizes Dr. Nanda’s outstanding contributions to the field of cardiology and his tireless commitment to advancing cardiovascular care on an international scale.
